Seven guys (including Tom), hand mixing and billy-goat running the cement up the ramp in wheelbarrows (they actually had to run up the ramp to keep momentum to make it to the top. Tom said he lost count after 150 times up the ramp. I was supposed to help but that didn't work out too well....none of the Ecuadorian guys wanted to share their job with me.... i decided to take a different angle and opted for making snacks, bring water, going to the hardware store, and making a beer run for the end of the day. (i can´t say that i was really dieing to run the billy-goat marathon all day anyway.... ha!).
For all you construction buffs 7 guys mixed 55- 50 pound sacks of concrete, 5 meters of sand, and 8 meters of rock all by hand, ran it up a 45 foot ramp to the second story 12 feet up, started at 8am, finished at 5pm just in time to enjoyed some beers.
I'm impressed with the bamboo work, the bridge/ramp building and support for the slab before it sets up. Are you sure the numbers are right? 13 cubic meters of sand and rock translates to 18 cy of concrete which will weigh 72,900#. To raise that weight 12 ft. in 9 hours requires 27 Horsepower. Boy, what working fools!!! It takes more than 1 beer to recover from that day. Fortunately you can't remove the forms for at least a week and will be forced to spend some time surfing.
