Surf up date.....

We are getting this beach figured out pretty well now after 4 weeks. The beach is quite long....it´s about a 1/2 mile walk from the town down to the point. The Point has the best wave and the most people with the classic male dominated unspoken pecking order. Tom saw a fight out there the 1st week we were here....we were like have we come all this way to the warm water version of S.C.??? ha ha We have discovered to our advantage that because this is such a party town/culture that the line up is more times than not totally empty at 6 in the AM and we can have it to ourselves for at least an hour......and really no one gets up before 9AM .... so that 3 hour window in the AM is really nice! About 100 yards south of the point is a sandbar that i have been surfing a tone....left and rights that are a bit slower than the other sand bars down the beach closer to town....that bar seems to need a mid-tide to do it´s thing and i always get waves when i surf there. There are about 3 to 5 more fun sand bars as you make your way down the beach back towards town. All these bars turn on at high tie....it´s almost funny how clock work it is .....as high tie approaches the waves pick up in size and start to peal. It´s a really fast throwing wave ....i have just started to enjoy that wave as the tide was high in the AM all this last week and i was able to surf it with out the crowd. With all the waves here it´s no suprise that the local population has produced an abundance of really good surfers.....mix that with travelers who came here to surf, learn to surf and the weekend influx of partiers trying to swim among the surfers an after noon surf session out in front of town on a Saturday is hectic to say the least.

We have not done any traveling for waves for the past two Saturdays now b/c Tom is working on the house ... .we are planing to try tomorrow to hop on the bus to the next town and check out the surf up there. We are thinking now that after the 28th of Feb (when we are done with school) we will leave the majority of our stuff at a friends house here and make our way up the coast in search of more waves for our last 3 weeks. It will be fun to loose all the people and check out some other spots!
The 1st pic is looking up the beach at the point at low tide .... the second is looking back down the beach towards town.....
